In Adversity Know You Matter to God

Focus Verses:For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
"I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me" (Philippians 4:13, GNB).

I had been praying for a loved one for years, and my prayers intensified as the months progressed. At times when things got intensely difficult I cried out to God in desperation. I can truly say, in those times, God always gave me the strength and the very special grace I needed to move forward.

Something special happened one morning, as I was watching the YouTube video "Father's Love Letter" again. Two important details in the video suddenly came alive to me:
  1. "Every good gift that you have received comes from my hands" (James 1:17)
  2.  "I am your provider and I meet all your needs" (Matthew 6:31-33)
Suddenly, a light of understanding shone on those Scriptures. I realized that I mattered to God too. In the pain, discouragement, and hurt that I was experiencing, God was interested in meeting my own needs too. He wanted to bring me the relief and the answer, for I was just as important to him as the person I was praying for.
It is so easy in these situations, to forget my own needs. After all, we are told many times that true love means self-sacrifice. While this is true, how can I we give what I don't have? I constantly need to receive refreshing and strength from my heavenly Father, to pass on to others.
As I understand that I matter to God, and I am of worth to him, I can truly trust him. Only then, can I have the settled assurance to stand in faith in him because he cares for me. As I do, I experience God's powerful work in my life, and I can pass this on to others.
You are of great value to God, and you don't have to strive to get him to accept you. Watch the video below as Nick Vuyicic,  a man born without arms or legs, explains that God "can do miracles with broken pieces."  Even  if you don't see a physical miracle, don't give up, search for God's purpose for your life and you will find it. Nick did that and found out that he matters to God!

Focus Question: What experience have you had that made it clearer to you that you matter to God?

Prayer: "Heavenly Father, I thank you for your great love that even in the face of challenges  in my life, I know that I matter to you. You have given me the strength to face all conditions through your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen."
