Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

Thank God for the beauty of nature.
With all natural disasters, terrorist attacks, crime and violence, among other adverse events, I sometimes wonder, "How can I ever be happy?" But I now recognize that I have to make a conscious decision to be happy.
A key ingredient to becoming happier, even in these difficult times, is to become more grateful. What are the things that you are grateful for today? Despite adverse situations, there are blessings you enjoy in your life each day. Why not start keeping a gratitude journal?
Keep a gratitude journal and take time each day to focus on the people and things you are grateful for. This will give you a chance to pay attention to the blessings in your life, instead of being burdened by the negative aspects of the world around you.
Look at the good things in your life that you sometimes take for granted. See each thing to be grateful for as a gift from God. Remember, "whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from our Father..." (James 1:17, NLT). Take time to thank him for his good gifts.
Our lives are filled with the blessings that God sends to us each day. It's time to rejoice!

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again. Rejoice! Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4: 4, 5).
"Father, I thank you for the many blessings that you give to me today. I will rejoice and be glad! Amen."
