You Are Good Enough!

I firmly believe that the quality of life that we experience daily is largely determined by how we see ourselves. Our self-esteem is the picture we have of ourselves, and whether or not we like what we see.

Healthy self-esteem comes through focusing on things that help us to appreciate and understand the persons God made us to be. There will always be people who are more talented or gifted than I am! But I have learned (and am still learning) to focus on my God-given talents and abilities, and to make the most my strengths.

A first step is to resist the urge to compare myself with others. Instead, I remind myself that each of us (including me) is wonderfully made by God for a special purpose. An understanding that God sees each of us as unique and special, frees us to be ourselves.

The Scriptures affirm our true worth, and our greatest affirmation comes from the Bible. For example, Ephesians 1:6 tells us that God has made us to be accepted in his Beloved, Jesus Christ. This enables us to see ourselves in light of what God says about us, and this empowers us to accept ourselves as people of worth.

In the YouTube video, Nick Vujicic, a man born without arms and legs,  shares his experience of how he overcame many challenges to have a fresh perspective on life. According to Nick, "It's a lie to think that you are not good enough! It's a lie to think that you are not worth anything."

Focus Verse: "For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb ... I am fearfully and wonderfully made ..." (Palm 139:13, 14).
Prayer: "Father, thank you that you painstakingly formed each one of us in a special way. How awesome are your thoughts towards us! Thank you that you had a great purpose for our lives before we were even born. Amen."
